Kaye D. Benson nee Buffington
Kaye D. Benson, 76, passed away April 10, 2009, after a brief illness.
A native of Barberton, she made the Norton-Barberton area her home for more than 66 years. She supported many community activities and was a fixture at Norton High School athletics throughout the '70s and '80s. She also was active with Barberton High School's Class of 1950, serving on the planning committee for several of the class reunions.
Her loyalty to her community was rivaled only by her dedication to the medical profession. She received her nursing diploma in 1953 and was a long-time employee of Akron General Medical Center, working for more than 35 years in the Emergency Department and in nursing management. Even after her retirement in 1998, she worked part-time in the nursing staffing office until December 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her parents, Charlotte G. and Harry D. Buffington. She is survived by her sons, Dale Grimes of Coral Gables, Florida, and Denny Cyndie Grimes of Ft. Myers, Florida; daughter, Shelley Benson Michael Desposito of Raleigh, North Carolina; and grandchildren, Lyndsey and Morgan Grimes.
Friends may call FRIDAY, April 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Services will be held there at 10 a.m. on SATURDAY, April 18, with interment at Rose Hill Burial Park immediately following. In lieu of other remembrances, donations may be made to the Greater Akron Chapter-American Assn. of Critical-Care Nurses P.O. Box 3122, Akron, OH 44309-3122 or the Ohio Pug Rescue www.ohiopugrescue.com .
