Kenneth C. Sharp, 89, of Green, Ohio, died June 27, 2016.
His Ancestors, the Merediths, immigrated to America from Ireland and landed at Jamestown, Virginia about 1808. Born in Akron, Ohio, on August 26, 1926, he was a longtime resident of Cuyahoga Falls, and Green Ohio. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, was a United States Navy Armed Guard Veteran of World War II from June 6, 1944-1946. He served aboard ships in the American, European, African, Middle Eastern and Asiatic Pacific Campaigns. He also served in the India and Philippine Theaters. He was appointed to the Akron Fire Department on April 16, 1953 and retired on January 21, 1984, with the rank of District Fire Chief. His memberships included the First Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls, Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio, and Akron Area Police and Fire and Widows Association. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1062 in Cuyahoga Falls, a 40 year member of Akron Area Board of Realtors, conferred life membership in the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association, and a former member of the Cuyahoga Valley Civil War Round Table. He and Bonnie, his wife of 68 years, enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling most of the United States, Spain and China with a cruise down the Yangtze River and many monthly trips to Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Preceded in death by his father and mother, A.Y and Mable Sharp; sister, Alberteen Lowdermilk of Wadsworth; and brothers, Alfred and Arnold; surviving family members include wife, Nancy L. "Bonnie" Sharp; son, D. Kevin; daughter, Nancy A. and granddaughter, Jessica Mae Sharp; sister-in-law, Jean Sharp of Copley, many nieces, nephews and cousins, who all were his "Most favorite One".
