Kevin D. Rice

December 12, 1955 — July 1, 2024

Kevin D. Rice , (68) was born December 12, 1955 in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Denton and Delores Rice. He passed away peacefully July 1, 2024 at his home with his best friend and constant companion Debbie and his beloved dog Schnitzel by his side.
Kevin graduated in 1974 from Walsh Jesuit High School. He was a very intelligent person and this trait resulted in many scholastic achievements. He participated in cross country and soccer in high school. In his 20s and 30s he continued to play club soccer and added rugby to his repertoire. He was a lifetime fan of both sports.
Besides sports, Kevin's lifelong passion was coin collecting which he started when he was 10 yrs old and continued to buy, sell and trade into his retirement from University Hospitals in 2021. He enjoyed meeting other numismatists and formed a circle of friends around their shared love of the hobby. Kevin enjoyed traveling and visited Europe and England but his favorite country by far was Ireland. Kevin loved everything Irish, especially coins.
Kevin attended Akron University and could speak Russian, German and French, stopping at work to have conversations with staff in their native languages to keep his skills sharp. Kevin's recall of information and music trivia amazed his family and friends. Kevin was best known for his big heart, his quick wit and his smile. Friends who knew him well would comment on how he went out of his way to help them with a task or comfort them with kind words or make them laugh when they were down.
Along with Debbie Briggs, Kevin will be sorely missed by his brothers and sisters, Mark Rice (Becky), Matthew Rice (Margaret), John Rice (Judy), Susan Rice Abramson (Jim) and Amy Rice Petron (Randy) and loved ones. We are blessed to have had Kevin in our lives and give thanks for the opportunity to have known him and the great memories we now have to keep.
We rejoice in the knowledge that he is whole and healthy in Heaven, and free of the pain he had here on Earth.

Per Kevin's request, he was cremated and there will be no memorial service.
