La Vonne (Holland) Kottka nee Mallison
On June 9th, 2013, two months shy of her 87th birthday, La Vonne Kottka closed her beautiful green eyes that she was known for and left us to rejoin family and friends, her Pom, Machu, and granddog, Muffie, waiting for her in Heaven. La Vonne was a North Hill girl, born and raised in Akron, and a graduate of North High School, Class of 1944. She also resided in Cuyahoga Falls for several years. After working for Nobil Shoes and First National Bank, La Vonne became a legal secretary for many years, working for several area law firms, most notably McGowan & Wood and Blakemore, Rosen, Miller & Norris where she was the secretary for Attorney Bernie Rosen. She also worked as the Assistant to the Law Librarian at The University of Akron and was a member of the Greater Akron Legal Secretaries Association. Prior to her retirement, La Vonne also managed Fir Hill Towers and worked as a secretary to Dr. S.H. Crano, but she remained a Legal Eagle all her life and never missed a good trial on Court TV or her nightly dose of Nancy Grace.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Elsie and Harold M. (Duke) Mallison, great-grandparents, favorite aunts, uncles, and cousins; she leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of thirty-seven years, Lee Kottka; her daughter and Partner In Crime, Holly A. Holland, both of Akron; her wonderful caregiver, Wilma Worthy; and best friends, Alta and Junior Carter, of Woodsfield, Ohio.
Special thanks to the staffs of Summa City Hospital, in particular Dr. Senger of the Palliative Care Unit, Summa Physician House Calls, Community Caregivers, Gentiva Nursing Service, Area Agency on Aging and Passport, as well as the staffs of Altercare Cuyahoga Falls and Traditions on East Bath Road.
Per La Vonne's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends during calling hours on SATURDAY, June 15, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd. St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH, 44223 with memorial service following at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Arthur R. Fields officiating.
