Larry W. Peters of Akron, OH passed away on June 27, 2024 at his home. Larry was born in Edgerton, OH on November 19, 1938 to the late Willard and Nylo Peters.
Cancer may have cheated Larry of a few birthdays, but it never robbed him of his zeal for living. Despite his 19 year struggle with multiple cancers, treatments, operations, therapies and other health issues, he continued to ride his bike on the towpath, engage in stained glass and woodworking projects and remodel his home until recent months. He still planned and grew a garden even if lately it was just a balcony garden. Larry was the guy who always wanted to know what was on the other side of the hill and he has now earned his gift to enjoy all the glories of all the hills, mountains and valleys.
Larry was a proud member of the IBEW, having apprenticed in Local 305, Fort Wayne Indiana. He worked several years out of Local 306 in Akron, but he would tell you that he worked from New York City to Colorado Springs, CO, and he enjoyed every bit of his trade. After retirement Larry spent 7 years traveling in his RV serving as a volunteer at many state and National Parks and Historic sites earning a Presidential Volunteerism Award. Larry also served 4 years in the US Navy. He had a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert (Judy), his grandson Hunter McGrath, and his first wife Sharon Onstott Peters.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Anita, his children Mark Peters (Karlie), Amy Budreau, and Katy Mook McGrath (Michael), his brothers Earl (Marilyn), Willard (Trudy), and Lamar (Sharon), and sisters-in-law Rebecca Zona and Judy Onstott Bowers. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren complete his immediate family circle. He valued all of his extended family and considered his friends as family.
Friends and family will be received at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron OH 44333 on Monday July 1, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm for visitation immediately followed by a Celebration of Life with military honors and then a luncheon reception at the funeral home.
