Laurel Robinson (nee Gilcrest) passed away peacefully July 29, 2014. She was born in Toronto, Ohio on January 15, 1935 to Lawrence and Dorothy Gilcrest who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charlie.
While Laurel was a student at Kent State University she met Robert H. Robinson whom she married and spent 55 years with until his passing in 2010. They made their home in Hudson, Ohio where they raised their family. They also enjoyed spending time at their farm on the Ohio River where she tended a large garden and canned prodigious quantities of delicious jams and jellies, tomatoes and her famous peppers.
She is survived by her children, Marcia (Dan) Williamson of Sugar Land Texas, Charlie (Susan) and Rob (Kerry) of Hudson and Laurie (Chris) Dickinson of Cuyahoga Falls. Her passing will be mourned by her adoring grandchildren, Katie (Peter) Longoria, Julie (Joe) Edwards, Mark Williamson, Emily (Matt) Fabian, William Robinson, Sarah Dickinson, Patrick Dickinson, Robert 'Matt' Robinson, Jonathan 'Jack' Robinson and Kelly Robinson. Laurel took special joy from spending time with her great grandchildren, Elena, Mia and Christian Longoria, Evelyn and Louis Fabian and Daniel and Jeremiah Edwards. She is also survived by her brother, Roger (Linda) Gilcrest and sister, Norma Adams; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Laurel enjoyed playing bridge and attained Life Master Status. She was an avid reader and regular watcher of Jeopardy. She never backed down from a challenge at Scrabble or Backgammon or any game that challenged her broad range of knowledge.
Following her wishes cremation has taken place. Her life will be celebrated with a service at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora St. Hudson, 11 a.m. Saturday August 2 with Rev. Larry Minter officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to The Matamoras Library Association, PO Box 279, New Matamoras, OH 45767. The family would also like to thank the staff at The Crown Center at Laurel Lake for the care and assistance they provided to Laurel. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
