Leah Ann May

Leah Ann May, 95 years old, passed away peacefully on October 28th, 2024, in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was born on November 30th, 1928, in Akron, Ohio to Leon Daniel Weis and Mildred Ada Weis née Plummer. Leah was a proud graduate of Buchtel High School, the University of Akron where she was president of Alpha Gamma Delta, and Case Western Reserve University. She married Loran Edward May on July 26th, 1952. Leah worked as a children’s librarian at Akron Public Library until starting a family.

Leah was devoted to family and volunteered within her community throughout her life. She and Ed shared their love story for 63 years. Leah had a fun, competitive spirit and relished playing cards with family and friends. Her energy and enthusiasm were contagious. Leah was an avid fan of the Cleveland Guardians and found time to watch or listen to almost every game for as long as anyone remembers. 

Leah was preceded in death by her husband, Loran May; and her son, Mark May. Leah is survived by Mark’s wife, Rebecca of Denver, Colorado; her son, Matthew and daughter-in-law Caroline of Raleigh, North Carolina; son, Eric May and daughter-in-law Shannon of Bakersfield, California; daughter, Erin May of Lakewood, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Leah’s life and reminisce during calling hours at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N Miller Rd, Akron, OH 44333, from 4-7 P.M. on TUESDAY November 5, 2024, where funeral service will take place 11 A.M. WEDNESDAY November 6 prior to burial at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg, OH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leah’s name may be made to the Salvation Army, 190 S Maple St. Akron, OH 44302.
