Lillian E Mardis

Lillian E. Mardis, 93, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on April 6, 2015.

Born April 7, 1921 in Akron, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jessie Samartzi, and was a graduate of Central Hower and the University of Akron with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She retired from the Akron Public Schools in 1979 after teaching thirty-two years at Firestone Park Elementary School. A member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, she was active in Philoptochos and the Daughters of Penelope. For many years, she also enjoyed volunteering at the Greek Bazaar, Gyro luncheons and playing bridge and poker with her friends.

Preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Mario Mardis; son, Dr. Charles A. Mardis; and brothers, Dr. Michael Marcey and Amos Marcey; she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Janet Mardis of Copley; beloved grandsons, Charles E. (Lisa) Mardis, D.D.S. of Wadsworth and Michael Mardis (fiancé, Hayley Jones) of Columbus; sister-in-law, Tess (James) Glass; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Joseph Panzner, Dr. Eric Panzner and the home and Hospice Care Center staff of Visiting Nurse Service for their care and compassion.

Services will be held 11 a.m. WEDNESDAY at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., with Rev. Fr. Jerry F. Hall officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park with a memorial luncheon immediately following at the church. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., TUESDAY from 5-8 p.m., where the Trisagion service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church Scholarship Fund or to Hospice of VNS, c/o Akron General Foundation, 400 Wabash Ave., Akron, OH 44307-2463.
