Linda S. Lease Guran
Born in Warren, Ohio, April 27, 1951, she lived most of her life in Akron, Ohio. She was the daughter of Walter and Elleen Lease and had one sister, Margy Lease. Linda spent most of her adult life serving others..her family, her church, and her community. From being recognized in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities to conducting pro bono work for an elderly client less than two weeks ago, Linda dedicated her life to serving others.
A talented musician and an athlete active in many sports, Linda possessed a brilliant mind and compassionate spirit. She received her B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Akron where she was a leader in her sorority, Chi Omega, as an active and as an alumna. She was an active member of the Akron Junior League, participating in many projects and serving on several boards, especially those involving children's rights.
Linda was devoted to worship and outreach at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, small ensembles, and performed solo works. She shared her keyboard talents on the piano and organ when needed for weddings and worship services. She supported the church's intern program, building projects, and social outreach programs.
She and her husband, John, raised two children, Melissa and Matthew, and virtually adopted many others over the years in an extended family, most recently adding a son-in-law, Kristopher Paal, in December 2000, and daughter-in-law, Kassandra Head, in September 2008. Boating, water and snow skiing, bicycling and tennis were frequent family activities. She and John were skiing last February at their mountain home in Whitefish, Montana, when she first experienced the symptoms of the cancer that took her life so quickly.
Services will be held 11 a.m. TUESDAY at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Landis Coffman officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., MONDAY 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Linda requested that gifts be given in her memory to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church's Old Endowment Fund, 50 N Prospect St., Akron, Ohio 44304 or to The Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank, 350 Opportunity Pkwy., Akron, Ohio 44307
On the last day of her life, Linda said, "I want my life to have been and continue to be a gift and/or mantra to others." She left this life peacefully on August 29, 2008, surrounded by her family and friends.
