Linda B. Kersker, 61, died suddenly Thursday, July 2, 2009 from an acute dissection of the ascending aorta.
She was born in Akron, Ohio on October 21, 1947 and has lived in Akron most of her life where she leaves a legacy of passion, verve and whimsy in everything she did. Linda graduated from Denison University and the University of Michigan School of Law. She has been a judge in the Akron Municipal Court since February 2009. She was the first female attorney and first female partner at the law firm of Browse McDowell. Linda was a dedicated member and three-term president of the Akron Board of Education. She served on many charitable boards including the Salvation Army, SWAP, Planned Parenthood and others.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gretchen von der Halben Kersker and survived by her husband of 25 years, J. Wayne Baker; father, Theodore M. Kersker Alice; sisters, Bonnie Johnson Vince, Suzanne Westerhold Norm; daughters, Linda Tustin John, Susan Ross Dave, Naomi Baker, Sarah Baker Peter Geissert, Jana Pennel; grandchildren, Jozeff Wayne Gebolys, Alexandra Ross, Kevin Ross, Lila Geissert; nieces and nephews, Wendy Cayer John, Ted Johnson Kathy, Beth Johnson Eric Draeger, Lisa Lersch Jason.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, at the Linda B. Kersker Auditorium at Firestone High School, 333 Rampart Ave., Akron, 44313. Be aware of detours due to road construction.
