Lois Hanlon (nee Price Petrie)
Born May 28, 1927 in Akron Ohio to Enos and Rhea Baker, Lois passed peacefully November 28, 2015 after a lengthy illness.
Affectionately known as Loie, Lulu or Grammy, she was always impeccably dressed from head to hand to toe. Her color palette included her favorites of taupe, taupe and taupe. Loie loved to entertain and enjoyed her guests. Cocktails were to be served at 6pm with a glass of Chardonnay, two ice cubes. Mock-top cars were the most elegant cars on the highway and backseat comfort was a must for her passengers. The walls on her home were decorated with paintings by her father and friends, along with photos of her family and friends throughout their lives and special events. Everyone enjoyed gazing at all the photos finding newness each time.
Lois was married in 1947 to George Robert Price. Together they raised four children on Turkeyfoot Island in the Portage Lakes, Gara Alderman, Geoffrey (Kathy) Price, Penny (Bill) Thomas and Deborah Montz (Mark) Demich.
As a young woman, Loie volunteered for Akron Children's Hospital where she helped make the renowned Pinkie the Puppet. Into the wee hours of the morning, she and cousin Mary Nilsen poured their love into making princess doll cakes. They never made any money doing it, but had the best time laughing and bringing joy to many young girls on their birthday. Loie, along with her husband Bob, owned and operated the Lockwood Hardware with the Nilsen's for seven years. She was a fine seamstress and made many beautiful clothes for her daughters and herself.
Married in 1975 to Verne E. Petrie, she gained two stepsons, Mark Petrie and Michael (Pamela) Petrie. The family grew with the arrival of many grandchildren and Christmas dinner defined adulthood when one was promoted from the kid's table to the adult table. Loie was an avid tennis enthusiast and played in a weekly tennis group. She and Verne celebrated wins in the Portage Country Club Mixed Doubles Tournaments. Her grandchildren were encouraged to pick up the sport. Loie sold real estate for Marting Realty with her dear friend Margaret Wagner. The two enjoyed wonderful times together in their careers and friendship.
Married in 2005 to John (Jack) Hanlon, she gained two stepdaughters and a stepson; Gwen (Bill) Howard and Jim (Denise) Hanlon and Lyssa (Hanlon) Cavezza. Renewing a friendship from their young married lives, Loie and Jack enjoyed 10 years of marriage together. She traveled with Jack to Thailand and many countries where Jack had held many overseas assignments during his career. Together they lived in Marco Island, FL during the winter season and regularly visited their favorite restaurants at Pelican Bend and The Sunset Grille with their neighbors Barbara and Fred Ganter. They enjoyed annual trips to Keene Camp in the Adirondacks. Loie lived a full life making memories and moments with so many. If you were a part of her life at any time you made her life special.
Preceded in passing by her husband Bob Price and husband Verne Petrie, sister Gara Graham Fairweather, niece Gara Graham, Jr., stepdaughter Lyssa (Hanlon) Cavezza and granddaughter Andrea (Thomas) Zak, she leaves behind 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nephew, cousins and friends.
