Loretta "Jean" Hastings (Nee Kocsis)

October 19, 1936 — May 21, 2022

Loretta “Jean” Hastings, née Kocsis

Grandma Jean mowed her lawn for the last time and went to a better place on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the age of 85. We trust that she was welcomed there by her beloved daughter, Debbie Zebrowsky (Prentiss), husband Roger Hastings, brother Bob Kocsis, and other loved ones.

She left behind three precious and adoring granddaughters, who cry the bittersweet tears of those who have experienced the pure and fierce love of a grandma: Mekenzie Lundt (Prentiss), Dusty Zebrowsky, and Grace Prentiss. Jean excelled at grandmother-hood. The fact that she loved to puzzle, craft, go to the zoo, and stocked a mean fridge of ice-cream and pop helped in this regard. Time was her currency, and she gave freely.

Jean was a farm girl at heart; she worked hard, and faced the hardship of life with a tough and steely resolve. She was a fighter, to the very end.

Growing up on her family farm, she loved nature and the land: the leaves turning in the fall, the flowers and bees, the sky spanning the farm. She shared what she knew about nature and the land with all of us: weather, bugs, plants, birds, flowers, animals. She had freakish grandma and girl strength. She was a mean shot when she had to be, sniping woodchucks from her kitchen window.

Jean is survived by her only son (whom she loved with all she had), Jim Prentiss, and his wife Tamara. She enjoyed all the traditions of family: the feasts, holidays and celebrations marking the passage of time. She also leaves behind the rest of the farm family: sister-in-law Kathy Kocsis, nephews Scott (Nikki) Kocsis, John (Cindy Wood) Kocsis, and grand-nieces Jenna, Kayce and Kendal.

Rest In Peace. We love you and miss you already.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 10am-12pm at the family farm in Copley.
