Lorraine Laudy

Lorraine Laudy, born on December 14th, 1920 in Akron Ohio to John and Grace Cunningham, peacefully passed away Friday morning on what would have been her 92nd birthday. She joined her husband of 67 years, Roger Laudy, who preceded her in death in June of 1998.

Lorraine was known for her generosity of spirit, compassionate nature and wily sense of humor. She loved to square dance and travel with Roger and was an avid sports fan, especially the Cleveland Cavaliers. An excellent mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as dressing impeccably, she was the hostess of hostesses. The best cook in the world. She made her home open to all who entered, hosting both friends and strangers alike.

Lorraine began her career supporting the engineering department at Goodyear Aerospace in the Macon Dirigible Hanger. In 1969, she became an Executive Secretary at General Tire and Rubber, retiring her position at the age of 72. She was an avid volunteer at Hospice at Ridgewood and as a reader every Monday to her beloved first graders at Case Elementary School--who all received her thoughtful "flyers" as she called them, that were personalized with their photo. She was honored by the City of Akron as a "Volunteer of the Year" in the early 2000's.

She is survived by her sister, Jean Martin; daughter, Melinda Laudy; son, Roger Laudy; daughter-in-law, Tracy; daughter-in-law, Diane; grandchildren, Emily , Jennifer, and Lauren; and great-grandson, Desmond.

She lived a full and wonderful life and will be deeply missed.

Service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 18th at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, with Rev. Dr. Donard M. Engle officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. In memorial of her passing, family asks donations to be made to Akron General Development Foundation, Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice, 400 Wabash Ave., Akron, OH 44307.
