Louise Baltes

November 12, 1934 — July 9, 2022

Copley

E. Louise Baltes passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022 after a short illness.

Louise was born in Washington, PA on November 12, 1934, to the late Kenneth and Helen (Phillips) Mallabone. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jay Mallabone and Robert Mallabone; and nephew, Michael Mallabone. She leaves behind H. Charles (Chuck) Baltes, her devoted husband of over 59 years; children, C. Louise Lawrence (Michael), Melody Middendorf (Eric), Jackie Parker (David), and Scott Baltes (Kim); grandchildren, Heather McMullin, Hannah Middendorf, Jason Baltes, Heidi Miller (Jordan), and Allison Baltes; great grandchildren, Paige George, Tristan McMullin, and Taylor Powell; great-great granddaughter Vivian McMullin; nephew, Mark Mallabone; and long-time friends, Richard and Beverly Sutherland.

Louise and Chuck met at Roadway Express in 1962 (ripped slacks). They enjoyed driving through the ford at Sand Run Park in Chuck’s ‘57 Chevy convertible, listening to music, going dancing at Nick Yanko’s, getting a bite to eat at Swenson’s, and swimming and hanging out at Montrose Swim Club.

Louise worked at Roadway Express in Accounts Receivable for nearly 50 years and was a distributor for Amway with her husband Chuck. She also worked on the weekends at Lemar’s Hair Salon on West Exchange. She retired from Roadway at age 65, but was asked to return. She continued to work until age 75 and was an integral part of growing and managing the “Roadway Store” at their Corporate Headquarters.

She became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in April, 1963. She served as the Chairwoman of the Altar Guild for over 10 years. She and Chuck were also choir members for over 20 years.

Louise loved her family and friends with unconditional love. She had a warm sense of humor, and was a bit mischievous at times! She took extreme pride in watching family members at school and sports events. She started a musical dynasty in the family with her love of music, especially classical and oldies. Many family members went on to have a professional career in music. She also enjoyed collecting all types of collectable glassware and bells, and took pride in showing off her collection and sharing with family, always asking friends and family to take something from the hutch.

Family gatherings were vitally important - she went over the top to make them special. At Christmas, she made 100s of cookies in order to give to others. Every Christmas and Thanksgiving, she made enough pumpkin pies for each family to take one home. At Easter, she and Chuck colored dozens of eggs so the family could have an Easter Egg hunt. Of course, there was a basket for everyone, no matter how old. At family dinners, her place was always at the head of the family table; rightfully earned. She was generous to a fault and received joy in giving to others – the gifts at Christmas were plentiful! Louise was the glue that kept the family together – our Matriarch.
