Lu Poland deBruin
Lu Poland deBruin, 93, died November 19, 2008.
Lu was a soft, warm, Christian lady with a rare zest for living. She was born in Byesville, Ohio, one of five siblings. She moved to Akron in the 1930's and worked as a hair stylist. In 1969 she married Walter deBruin and immediately embraced his family as her own. She gathered many friends throughout her life. She was "Miss Lu" for hundreds of children at Trinity Lutheran Church nursery, and Stan Hywet needlework guild found a faithful and accepting friend to all. She also delivered "Meals on Wheels". Lu was admired for her enthusiasm and energy at Akron General Wellness Center into her 90's and enjoyed gathering for coffee with her group of walkers. She was always ready to go with friends or family at the drop of a hat and added so much to the lives of others.
Lu was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; daughter, Diane Woods; and grandchild, Michael deBruin. She is survived by a son; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many Poland nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her dearly.
Lu was truly beloved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, December 1st at 11 a.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 50 N. Prospect St., Akron 44304 or a charity of your choice.
