Madeline L. Baughman

March 28, 1934 — April 20, 2023

Madeline L. Baughman (Albright) died peacefully at the Village of St Edward on April 20, 2023 in Fairlawn, OH at the age of 89.

Madeline was born on March 28, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to Howard and Lucetta (Hornberger) Albright. As an only child, Madeline grew up happily surrounded by family and friends. She graduated from the Friends Select School in Philadelphia and attended Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA where she was an English major and a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.

It was at Gettysburg College that Madeline met and fell in love with her charming husband, Glenn. Initially, they were just friends and Madeline even tried to set Glenn up on dates with her sorority sisters but Glenn only had eyes for Madeline and easily won her over.  They married in Philadelphia on March 10, 1956 and eventually moved to Wadsworth, OH in 1964 where Glenn found work as a research chemist at PPG in Barberton, OH.  Wadsworth became their family home and it is there that they raised their two sons, Philip and Stephen.

Madeline is remembered most as a caring mother and grandmother, a delightful sister-in-law, and a fun-loving aunt. She was devoted to her family and a dear friend to many.  Known for having a wonderful sense of humor, Madeline was always ready to laugh and socialize with family, friends, or neighbors. A remarkably creative woman, Madeline's talents included playing the piano and the organ, and painting. She enjoyed entertaining, loved an excellent meal and a good book. In addition, Madeline was actively involved in her sons’ school lives and encouraged them to develop their own strengths and musical interests.  She is fondly remembered for being a “band mom” chaperoning many of the band trips, watching every performance, and cheering on every parade.  Madeline spent several years, alongside Glenn, volunteering at Akron's Food Pantry which demonstrated her strong belief in showing kindness to all, giving back to her community, and helping others less fortunate.  Outside of the home, Madeline worked in real estate sales and as a coordinator for bus trip tours which she enjoyed. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Akron.

Madeline is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 67 years, Glenn L.; beloved sons Philip (Allison) of Skokie, IL, and Stephen (Deborah Yracheta) of Long Beach, CA; and two adored grandchildren Noah and Lily Baughman of Skokie, IL.

In keeping with Madeline’s wishes, no immediate memorial service is planned. The family will notify friends and loved ones when a service is scheduled. Her remains will be interred at Salem Union Cemetery in Dover, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials or donations be made to the American Heart Association ( https://www.heart.org ).

Services in care of The Billow Funeral Homes & Crematory, Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N Miller Road, Akron, OH  44333.
