Madge Emily Heacock Doerler died February 20, 2011.
Born March 9, 1918, to loving parents, Marguerite Peg and Walter E. Ed Heacock in West Unity, Ohio, she lived most of her life in Akron. She and her beloved husband, Dayton, were married May 16, 1942, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Akron. A 1935 graduate of Central High School, and Actual Business College in 1936, she completed her first year college at the University of Nevada, where Dayton was stationed at Reno Army Air Base until assigned to the Persian Gulf Command in World War II.
All her years in the workplace she was associated with Ray Bliss, first as he assumed leadership in the Republican Party locally, and then as manager of his Tower Agencies insurance business when he became Ohio Republican Party Chairman and then National Republican Party Chairman. She maintained a strong allegiance to the Republican Party and served on its county Central and Executive Committees and its State Committee.
She was a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, serving on the Altar Guild, Quiet Committee, Second Friday Nighters and as a former member of the Vestry and a long-time Sunday School teacher. In 1994 she was honored with St. Paul's Church and Community Service Award.
She volunteered with many community and service organizations, among them Summit County Children Services, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, and the Women's Committee of the University of Akron. She was a member of the Akron Woman's City Club, P.E.O. Chapter AJ, Fortnightly Club of Akron, a sustaining member of Junior Women's Civic Club, and a former member of Kadesh Court 19 Ladies Oriental Shrine.
Madge was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; brother, Charles Helen Heacock and their sons, Dennis and Jeff; sisters, Jean Neal Walsh and Ruth Robert King; brothers-in-law, Charles Rosemary Doerler, Sr., and Bill Helen Doerler; and sister-in-law, Morvydd Doerler. She is survived by nieces, Kelley Horsman partner, Roger, Shannon Walsh, and Robbin Jay Nordsten and their son, Matthew; nephew, Gregg Paula Heacock and their children, Graham and Megan her partner, Dan and their son, Aspen; nephew, Charles Mary Jean Doerler, Jr., and their daughter, Mary Kate Shawn and their children, Travis and Sarah; nephew, Ron Donna Doerler and their children, Wayne Margie and Deby Nic and their daughter, Victoria; and a host of treasured friends.
There will be a memorial service officiated by Rev. David Pumphrey 11 A.M. SATURDAY in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., on FRIDAY from 6 to 8 P.M. Private inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park before the memorial.
