Dr. Mahadeo Chand of Medina, Ohio died Thursday morning, April 7, 2011.
Born in Supaul, India, January 1, 1928, he dedicated his life and career to helping others. He was founder and director of Bihar Pathology and Research Laboratory and practiced pathology until his retirement in 1990.
Dr. Chand held prestigious positions as Past District Governor of Rotary International District 325, President of Patna Medical Association, and President of Bihar Transport Users Association. Throughout the years, he also held leadership roles in the International Hindi Association, Marwari Association of Ohio, Indian Red Cross, All India Federation of Transport Users Association, National Federation of Railway Users Association, Central Inland Water Transport Board, National Road Safety Council, Bihar State Planning Board, Indian Medical Association and the International Academy of Pathologists.
Dr. Chand is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Sushila Mohanka; and his three daughters and son-in-laws, Kiran and Pawan Khaitan, Shail and Thanmal Jain, and Shobha and Anand Khandelwal. He is also survived by his two brothers, Shyam and Bishwanath; sister, Rukmani; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road on Sunday, April 10, 2011. Visitation hours will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A service of remembrance will take place from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Hindu Religious Services will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., followed by cremation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Rotary Foundation or the Bihar Marwari Sammelan Shiksha Samiti. Please make checks payable to the respective organizations. We request all checks be mailed to his wife, Mrs. S. Mohanka, P.O. Box 1877, Medina, Ohio 44258, and we will submit them collectively on his behalf.
