Margaret Eileen "Maggie" Castrigano, of Bath, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 16, surrounded by her loving parents and brothers. She was 21 years old.
Maggie was born on April 10, 1989, in Akron, Ohio, to James Patrick and Georgia Anne Wojno Castrigano. She graduated from St. Hilary Elementary School in 2004, and was an active member of the school and church community. Maggie was a member of the school choir, and played on several sports teams, including basketball and volleyball.
She graduated from St.Vincent-St. Mary High School in 2008, and participated in several school and community volunteer programs. In addition, Maggie became a Eucharistic Minister and played on the girls' basketball, volleyball, soccer, track, and cross-country teams. In December 2008, she was presented as a debutante in the Akron Children's Hospital Charity Ball, and at the time of her death, Maggie was completing her second year of nursing school at Ursuline College where she received the Caritas Nursing Scholarship. She was a certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, and for the past seven years, Maggie worked at Fairlawn Swim and Tennis Club in Akron, where she was a lifeguard and swimming instructor.
In addition to her parents; Maggie leaves her brothers, Vincent Daniel and James Patrick II, of Cincinnati, and Benjamin George, of Akron. She was pre-deceased by her Maternal grandfather, George Alexander Wojno, and paternal grandparents, Vincent D. Castrigano and Margaret Mary Kearney Castrigano, of Cleveland. Maggie is survived by her maternal grandmother, Mary Hoover Wojno, of Akron. Surviving aunts and uncles include, Susan Wojno Hammond, and Bradley N. Wojno, of Akron, Kathy Jon Knight of Cleveland, Donna Robert Hinds, of Parker, Colo., Mary Margaret George Connolly, of Denver, Colo., Carol Maynard Kurtz, of Denver, Colo., Michael Hannah Lore Castrigano, of Lyndhurst, Ohio, Vincent D. Castrigano, of Denver, Colo., Timothy Renee Castrigano, of Aurora, Ohio, Christopher Jeanne Castrigano, of Hudson, Ohio, and Gregory Nancy Castrigano, of Hudson, Ohio. Maggie also leaves her devoted friend, Michael Senn, of Akron; Maggie's buddy, Gertrude, will miss her best friend. Maggie had a gentle spirit, a sincere concern for others and a strong faith in God. Although her life was brief, the impact Maggie made on all of those who knew her will last for all time.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. TUESDAY at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 W. Market St. Interment at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, MONDAY from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Akron Chapter, 2769 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
