After a brief illness, Margaret Ann Holforty, 82, passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 19, 2018. Margaret was born in Akron, Ohio on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1935 to Martin and Deane Shibley. She grew up in Silver Lake, Ohio with her sister, Marilyn, where they enjoyed long summer days on the lake and skating in the winter. Margaret attended Silver Lake Elementary School where, in the 6th grade, she met a new student, Jack, who caught her fancy. Shortly after this first meeting, however, Jack went on to a local high school while Margaret decided to attend Pine Crest Preparatory School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It wasn't until a few years later, on a chance meeting on a Florida beach, that Jack and Margaret would meet again, leading to a courtship then marriage in 1955.
Margaret spent her life living between Florida and her hometown of Silver Lake. While in Ohio, she was an active member of several local organizations including Silver Lake Garden Club, Witan and the Church in Silver Lake. Regardless of her other obligations, Margaret's focus was always on family as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She spent countless hours babysitting, shuttling grandchildren to activities and coordinating family dinners. In addition to her family, Margaret found joy in making others smile. She was known for her random acts of kindness - donuts to staff members, flowers to ailing neighbors, surprise gestures to make others feel special. Margaret will be deeply missed by family, friends and all that knew her for her fun spirit, humor and generosity.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jack, and two children - daughter, Laurie (Eric) Johnson; and their boys, Trent (Jessica), Jack Cameron, and Shane; and son, Jack Dean (Kristin); and their children, Jackson and Taylor. She is also survived by her nephew Donald Martin King.
Special thanks to the physician and nursing staff at Summa Akron City Hospital for their wonderful care and kindness.
Per Margaret's request, there will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to either Haven of Rest Ministries, Akron, Ohio or the American Diabetes Association. (Billow Falls Chapel)
