Marian L. Stalker, 89, peacefully went home to the Lord February 1, 2021.
Marian was born Youngstown, Ohio and attended Youngstown State University, majoring in education. She met the love of her life, Bill Stalker on campus during a “Religion and Life” social. They were happily married for 45 years until his passing, raising two daughters, Sharon and Susan. Moving from Youngstown, the couple settled in Fairlawn, where they started an advertising and public relations agency, Stalker Advertising & Public Relations, Inc. Marian was the bookkeeper and Treasurer for 55 years, until she retired in 2013 at the age of 81. Most of those years, she worked without pay to help the family business. Marian was always busy caring for others, typing radio/tv scripts and performing bookkeeping tasks at night while raising their two children during the day. For many years, she also cared for her aging, live-in mother-in-law, Lona (Nanny).
Marian was always happy, had a beautiful and positive outlook on life, never complaining nor saying a bad word about anyone. She was a woman who gave of herself her entire life, focusing on raising a family and helping her husband in his business. Her caring continued in mid-life when she helped raise her granddaughter Kristin, who was absolutely everything to her until her last breath.
Marian was a member of the Fort Island Methodist Church and then the Montrose Zion United Methodist Church where she sang alto in the choir and was a Sunday school teacher for decades. She loved Methodist hymns and going to musicals. Marian was a Brownies and Girl Scouts leader. She was also active in the Fairlawn City Women’s Club, serving as a former President as well as in local Book and Bridge Clubs.
Marian lived by the clock and kept a strict routine, even until she died. She loved being with friends and talked to everyone wherever she went. Anyone who knew Marian always relayed back to the family just how sweet and nice she was. She loved Ohio State Football, the Browns, Cavs and Indians games and many a neighbor would come rushing over as she loudly cheered her teams on to victory. She was able to stay in her home, which was so important to her with the loving care of her wonderful neighbors, Marcia Hinman & Patrice Schott. She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Stalker, her father and mother Newell and Mabel Moore of Youngstown, Ohio her brother Hal Moore of Banning, CA and her sister Evelyn “Jane” Bucher of Warren, Ohio and five wonderful dogs who were like children. She was also preceded in death by her dear friend Rosemary Forman, who she missed deeply after her 2016 passing.
Marian leaves behind two children, Sharon (David) Kalinowski of Queen Creek, Arizona, Susan (Richard “Duke”) Balaun of Fort Myers, Florida and granddaughter Kristin Kavanagh, MD (Alan Liu) of Akron, Ohio, sister-in-law Marlene Moore of Banning, California, six nieces and nephews and a host of grand and great grand dogs.
A memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
Donations can be made in memory to the Fairlawn City Women’s Club or to the Humane Society of Summit County.
