Marice Anne Deming Guran died in Akron, OH on May 2, 2018.
She was born in Montreal, Canada on June 6, 1927, daughter of John F. Deming and Edith Lea McNeil while her father was serving in the Foreign Service. She grew up in Rockville Center, New York, graduating from Southside High School. Marice went on to the College of Architecture at Cornell University where she met her husband, Elmer Guran, and they were married in 1949. Throughout her life she was active in the League of Women Voters, Chi Omega Sorority alumni group, Akron Art Museum, and Divinity Lutheran Church in Akron, where she served as its first woman president. After raising her four children, Marice earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from Kent State University. She then worked for Akron-Summit County Library as a children's librarian on bookmobiles until retiring in 1994 to travel extensively with Elmer in their motorhome. They moved to Ormond Beach, FL in 2000, and returned to Akron in March 2018.
Marice was predeceased by her parents; one grandson; daughter, Margaret; and her husband, Elmer. She is survived by her sons, John and Paul; and daughter, Barbara; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 W. Market St., Fairlawn, OH on Saturday, May 5th at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Rose Hill Burial Park, Fairlawn, OH. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the funeral at church.
