Marie E. Gore (Simms)

Marie E. Gore, 77, of Akron passed away the morning of September 2, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lena and Michael Simms. She leaves behind, her sons, Scott (Pam), Kevin (Gina), Mark (Marita); her grandchildren whom she loved so dearly, Malia, Harris, Ty , Sophie, Bailey, Isabella, Anthony and Andrew; brother, Michael (Karol); nephews Greg and Matt and niece Lauren; and great-nephew Carter and great-nieces Ava and Eden.

Marie, an Akronite for nearly all of her life, graduated from Garfield High School. She then attended The Ohio State University, majoring in journalism. After a brief career as a teacher, she devoted the rest of her life proudly raising and guiding her three boys and volunteering for a variety of organizations including St. Paul's Episcopal Church Flower Guild and Quiet Committee, Revere School District, Stewart's Caring Place, United Way, Summit County Board of Elections, and the Junior League of Akron.

Marie knitted beautiful sweaters and blankets for her grandchildren, was an avid reader and a devoted member of the "Lunch Bunch", gathering nearly every week with her closest friends for more than 40 years. She enjoyed traveling to see her sons and their families. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44313. Friends may call FRIDAY from 4 to 7 p.m. at Billow Funeral Home FAIRLAWN, 85 N. Miller Rd. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. SATURDAY at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with The Rev. Mark J. Pruitt officiating.
