Marilyn Schrimper Roberts died April 12, 2016 in Robertsdale, Alabama.
She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on October 27, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Helen Schrimper. She was valedictorian and star basketball player at Immaculate Conception High School and attended Mount Mercy College, in Cedar Rapids. While a student at the University of Iowa, she was a drummer with the Scottish Highlanders. Marilyn was awarded a BA in Mathematics at Iowa, in 1945, and was employed in Wichita, KS until her marriage on September 12, 1946. She reentered college in 1974, and earned an MBA in Finance at the University of Akron. Marilyn enjoyed membership in the St. Hilary Rosary Society, The University of Iowa Alumni Assn., The University of Akron's Faculty Women's Club, The Women's Board at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, Fairlawn Swim and Tennis Club, and the American Contract Bridge League.
Marilyn was an avid tennis player, and was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Tennis Hall of Fame in 1960. She won many trophies wherever she lived, including the Akron District Doubles title in 1975. Marilyn traveled extensively with her husband and three children in an Airstream trailer crisscrossing the lower 48, Alaska, and Canada. In more recent years, she explored all 7 continents and over 80 countries.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 67 years, Dr. Robert W. Roberts. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Ellyn Whisler (Bob) of Littlerock, CA; and two sons, William Allyn Roberts MD (Carol) of Fairhope, AL., and Robert Frederick Roberts DVM (Jane) of Bath, OH. She leaves behind nine wonderful grandchildren, Kim Foster (Josh), LT CDR Brian Whisler; Sarah, Daniel, Samuel and Hannah Roberts; and Katherine Fisher (Christopher), Benjamin (Karyn) Roberts, and John Roberts. Marilyn also leaves behind eight great grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Schrimper.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm FRIDAY, May 6th, at St. Hilary Catholic Church. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 West Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44333.
