Marjorie A. Burgess

March 24, 1929 — January 22, 2015

Akron a" Marjorie A. Burgess, 85, of Chambrel at Montrose, Akron, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 22, 2015. She kept her sense of humor, even during life's challenges and her declining years.

She was born March 24, 1929, in Meadville, PA, daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Proudfoot and spent her life in the New Castle, PA area.

Marjorie joins her husband, Richard Burgess, who passed away July, 2008. They would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary together and shared a rich and diverse life, many more ups than downs.

Marjorie graduated from St. Agatha's Parish in 1947, and later earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1972, to help her children earn their college degrees. Marjorie's was devoted to raising a strong, independent family.
She loved the outdoors and travel. She married Richard and lived in Greenville before moving to New Castle where they had innumerable friends, family, and companions. They loved to travel to the mountains and New England where she gathered wool for the priceless hooked rugs she made during their journeys. She enjoyed family camping with the Castle Campers and along the Big Sur. They visited Great Britain, including the Burgess family tenement flat in Blackburn, England. They wintered in Stuart, Fla. for many years and developed many warm and caring friends wherever they traveled.

Marjorie was a devoted member of the Eastern Star organizations, and worked at area nursing facilities and Habitat for Humanity projects. Most of all, Marjorie was a witty and fun-loving counterpart to Richard, and lived life fully with family and friends. She was a lifelong member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, the Tri-M Sunday School Class that stayed intact for 50 years.
Survived by children, Thomas (Cindy) Burgess, Debbie Shansky, and Alan (Lorena) Burgess; five grandchildren, Jessica Mazula, Joshua Burgess, Rachael Shansky, Brandon Burgess, and Logan Burgess; and her brother in law, Phillip Clark; nieces and nephew, Kathy (David) Kegarise, Linda (Joe) Chrillo, Philip (Alice) Clark, and Kelly Currie; 10 grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Her brother, Gerald Proudfoot, and sisters-in-law, Pauline and Anne pre-deceased her.
The staff at Chambrel at Montrose and the Brookdale Hospice were tremendous in genuine caring for Mom. She will miss deeply her best friends at Chambrel, including Tom Johnson and Max Johnson.
