Marlene Unger

Marlene Unger of Copley, passed away Dec. 1, 2012.

She was born in Sandusky, Ohio. A Music Education graduate of Capital University in Columbus, Marlene taught in Sandusky and Gahanna. After marrying Lowell Unger and moving to Akron, she taught in Cuyahoga Falls and St. Hilary School. Teaching piano lessons was her passion.

Marlene served as choir director at Divinity Lutheran Church and as children's choir director at Faith Lutheran Church. She was a member of the church choir, handbell choir and Prayer Shawl group. As a member of WELCA, she served as secretary and president. A long time member of Tuesday Musical Association, she served as Editor of the Yearbook, Secretary, President, First Vice President of Research and Development, and Brahms Club advisor.

She is survived by her husband, Lowell; brother, Paul (Connie) Murschel; daughters, Laurie (Ed) Barr, Sterling, Va., Leesa (Jonathan) Bell, Hamilton, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 W. Market Street. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or to Hospice of VNS.
