Martha Gardiner Freeman, 89, died March 18 at the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service.
Mrs. Freeman was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee and raised in Alabama. In 1942, after graduating from Alabama Polytechnic Institute Auburn University, she moved to Akron to work for Goodyear. After marrying in 1944, she left Goodyear to raise her family.
Mrs. Freeman was active in PEO and First Presbyterian Church, a member of Women's City Club and volunteered at Litchfield Rehabilitation Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Edson Almeron Freeman, Jr.; her son, Steven G. Freeman; her brother, William Gardiner; and sister, Helen Pickens. She is survived by her sons, Edson Judy of Akron and Jeff Laurie of Purcellville, Virginia; daughter, Lisa Carlson of Herndon, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Jerri Freeman of Akron; brothers, David and Charles Gardiner; sister, Betty Tribble; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 11 a.m. TUESDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Mark T. Ruppert officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
