Marvin “Mickey” L. Dragash, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2021. He was born in Suffield, Ohio on February 14, 1935. He graduated from Mogadore High School in 1954 where he was a four-year letterman in football, team captain and class President. He attended the University of Akron where he majored in Business Administration and enlisted in the United States Army holding the rank of E-4 (Specialist) with Co A, 308th Med Bn, 83rd Infantry Division. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, he commenced a decade’s long professional career in the transportation industry as a National Accounts Representative for Lee Way Motor Freight, Duff Truck Lines, Inc., and OK Trucking Company.
In addition to being a loving husband to his wife of 63 years and father, Marvin had many hobbies. He was extremely active in the martial arts where he achieved black belts in Hakkoryu Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Shi-Ki Karate and was a self-defense instructor at the Akron Central YMCA. Marvin was inducted into the Masonic Order in 1962 and was a member of Coventry-Akron Lodge #83 F. & A.M. He was also involved as a Knights Templar and Shriner. For years he gardened as a “gentleman farmer” and enjoyed providing friends as well as family with the annual bounty of his harvest. Most recently, his new-born Grandson became the “apple of his eye” (Psalm 17).
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Myrna L. Dragash (Minier); grandparents, George and Sattie Minier (Bosworth) and Milan and Martha Dragash; and uncle, Walter Dragash. He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Dragash (Binns); son, Mickey R. Dragash (Kimberly A. Cordas); brother, Jack I. Dragash; and grandson, Hunter L. Dragash.
A Masonic service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. Cremation will follow the services and private inurnment with military honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marvin’s name to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation ( www.ktef.org ), Shriner’s Children’s Hospital ( www.shrinerschildrens.org ) or the Summit County Humane Society ( www.summithumane.org ).
