Mary Kostas Anasson , 90, passed away peacefully July 30, 2022.
Born August 29, 1931 in Akron, Ohio to Thomas and Genevieve (Sarres) Kostas (Kotzambasis), she was an educator for 35 years. Her first teaching job came before she even graduated from The University of Akron with her bachelor’s in education with a special, one-semester assignment at Cottage Grove Elementary School in Coventry Township with a 6th grade special needs class, her most rewarding teaching experience. Mary also taught at Kenmore High School before spending 32 years at Manchester High School teaching typing, shorthand and a full secretarial science curriculum.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, Alex P. Anasson. She was a life-long member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Akron.
Mary enjoyed making pans of baklava at the holidays to share with everyone, as well as batches of koulouria ever-so-carefully mailed to her granddaughters as they were growing up.
Mary was very active in her local chapter of her national education sorority, Kappa Kappa Iota (Lambda Chapter), as well as the Summit County Retired Teachers Association, and was a founding member of the Asia Minor Hellenic American Society.
She leaves behind her daughters, Cynthia Anasson (Rich Waskiewicz) and A. Karen Anasson-Dooley (Kevin Dooley); granddaughters, Eleni A. Waskiewicz and Nina G. Waskiewicz; nephew, Elias Kotzambasis; like-a-brother, Fonda Diamantis; and many other relatives here and in Greece. Mary’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the many caregivers and staff from Visiting Angels who supported her over the years, especially Yolanda, Katie, Tawnya and Karen as well as the staff at Cleveland Clinic Hospice Center.
