Mary Emily Hemphill, born June 30, 1926, passed quietly Sept. 20, 2013 at Summa Palliative Care.
She was preceded in death by parents, Dr. Rae and Hazel Cather; and children,
Jane and Rob.
She grew up in Norton, OH and graduated Norton High School and went on to Post Graduate
School. Mrs. Hemphill attended Vassar, Kent State, University of Akron, and UCLA and
received her Master's in Psychology at The University of Akron.
After her marriage in 1949 to Robert J. Hemphill, M.D. she entered into a very active life in
Bath Township. She was one of the founders of Bath Volunteers for Service, Bath Historical
Society and the Bath Library, which later became part Fairlawn. She also was active in the
Akron City Hospital Women's Board. She was a past President of the Medical Auxiliary of the
Summit County Medical Society. In her later years she most enjoyed her dear friendships with the Bridge Club(that did not play bridge.)
There should be a special Thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at Summa, especially all the compassionate nurses and supurb doctors. A special thanks to Dr. E. A. Matos and Dr. William A. Bauman for years of great medical care.
