Mary Dure Johnson, 93, died peacefully in her home on April 14, 2021 surrounded by her family and her loyal Labrador retriever, Luke. She was born in Wilmington, Delaware on August 26, 1927 to Alice Stevenson Dure and Henry Franklin Dure. Mary was a graduate of Swarthmore High School and attended Pembroke College (Brown University), Providence, RI. In 1948 she married Page Michaux Bullock, of Swarthmore, PA. They lived in Wilmington, DE, Rahway, NJ, Rochester, NY and finally Akron, OH. They had four children and were divorced in 1970. Mary went on to marry Akron attorney, Allan Johnson Jr. They courageously combined their two families, providing ongoing support to their eight children. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She attended and/or hosted numerous birthday parties, graduations, weddings, baptisms and the famous ‘Sunday night dinners’ for her large family. She believed there was “always room for one more” and was embracing and inclusive. Her unconditional love, calm spirit, and loyal companionship will be greatly missed by her family. She enjoyed her brief residential real estate career in the 70’s when she helped convert apartment houses into the new concept of ‘condos.’ A sports and animal enthusiast, she enjoyed playing tennis, skiing, spending summers in South Conway, NH, taking her dogs to the dog park or riding one of her horses. She became known as an accomplished equestrian winning many ribbons for Dressage in her later years. She enjoyed and appreciated the Arts including the Cleveland Orchestra, CMSO chamber music, and original art. She was well read and received three papers daily to keep herself updated on current world affairs. The New York Times crossword puzzle was a favorite. She was a member of the Akron Garden Club, Diggers & Weeders, Women’s Board of (Akron City) Summa Hospital, Guardian Ad Litem, her special ‘Bridge Club’ as well as a member of Portage Country Club, South Conway Club and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Mary is survived by her son, Page Michaux Bullock, Jr. (Linda) of Canton, OH; daughters, Sarah Bullock Nix (David) of Akron, OH and Madelene Bullock Wilson (Eric) of Concord, MA; stepchildren, Katharine Mears, Anne Hurt, Alicia Spearman and Allan Johnson III; grandchildren, Jennifer Bullock Trittmann, Alice Nix, Benjamin Bullock, Christine Bullock Wendell, Westley Wilson, Blake Wilson, and Carter Wilson; great grandchildren, Arthur, Sophie, and Anna Trittmann and Brooks Bullock.
