Mary Scott Lowdermilk, 88, daughter of Senator and Mrs. W. Kerr Scott of Haw River, North Carolina, passed away on December 27, 2009.
Mrs. Lowdermilk was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Alfred J. Lowdermilk, Jr.; her parents, and her brothers, Osborne W. Scott and Governor Robert W. Scott.
Mary was a graduate of Alexander Wilson High School and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Mary was active in many organizations. She was a 50 year plus member of the First United Methodist Church, serving as a teacher, President of the Builders Class, Director of Vacation Bible School, and a member of the Official Board. Mary was President of the Elizabeth Price Sackman Child Study Club, Vice Regent of Cuyahoga Portage, DAR, member of Akron Woman's City Club, the Commandary Auxilary Eye Bank, and the Girl Scouts.
Mary is survived by daughter, Elizabeth White Westman of Michigan; grandson, Carl Alfred Westman and his wife Heather of Tennessee; great- grandchildren, Kate Marie and Scott Andrew Westman; sister-in-law, Jessie Rae Scott of North Carolina.
Services will be held 11 a.m. WEDNESDAY in the First United Methodist Church, Chapel of the Good Shepherd, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio with Rev. Marvin Brown officiating. Interment at Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mebane, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Gifts and Memorial Fund.
