Mary L. Maimone (nee Crish), age 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 25, 2017.
She was the daughter of Italian immigrants and was raised on a farm in Youngstown, Ohio with her 12 siblings. At a time when few women attended college, she was determined to do so and graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1945, majoring in Foreign Languages. She wanted to experience life outside of Ohio and moved to NYC after college where she worked for Vick Chemical as a Spanish-English translator and met her beloved husband Dominick at a dance. She was an avid learner and had many interests throughout her life. She and Dominick enjoyed many hours together playing in bridge tournaments in Florida and elsewhere and she attained Bronze Life Master status. She also loved to golf and won the class B championship 3 years in a row at Portage Country Club and shot a hole in one. She was active in civic matters such as raising money for the American Cancer Society and was a member of the Rotary Wives of Akron. She loved to crochet and sew and made many items for her children and grandchildren. Above all, her greatest love was for the 4 children she raised together with her husband of 67 years. She modeled grace, kindness and respect for all. Her quick wit and humor charmed all who knew her. The family would like to thank special caregiver Alisha Powers for her loving care and support of Mary.
Preceded in death by her loving son, Daniel; 4 brothers and 4 sisters; she is survived by her devoted husband, Dominick; son, Thomas (Joan); daughters, Nancy Koly (David) and Marie Hennessey (Thomas); grandchildren, Kristen Blanks (James), Daniel (Brittany), Dominick, Christine, Matthew, Andrew and Kathryn; great-grandson, Dominick; 4 sisters and many nieces and nephews.
