Mary Helen Thomas, age 90½, passed away peacefully in Pineville, N.C. on Sunday, January 3, 2010. She was with her daughter, Patricia and her son-in-law, John Proctor.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 64 years, Ralph Thomas and daughter, Marilyn K. Ryan. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia and husband John; her four grandchildren, Shawn Proctor, Melinda Proctor, Todd Gable, and T.J. Gable. Also surviving two great-grandchildren, Cody Gable and Isabella Proctor, and a large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary attended schools in Akron, Ohio, and also attended Kent State University. She worked at Burkhart Brewery, and was an administrative assistant in the volunteer office at Akron City Hospital. Also, Mary was a Girl Scout leader, Bible school teacher and a volunteer at the Red Cross. She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio for 45 years.
Mary enjoyed cooking for her extended family on all holidays and family celebrations. She was a resident of the Regency Retirement Center for the last five years. She also was a 55 year survivor of breast cancer. She will be greatly missed.
The family of Mary would like to express their heart felt thanks for all the staff especially the loving staff of the memory care unit -- for their kindness and diligence in taking care of Mary during her stay at the Regency Retirement Village.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Bethany United Church of Christ, 1235 Broad Blvd., Cuyahoga Falls, with Rev. Steven G. Gehlert officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour before services and a luncheon will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
