Mary Ann Williams

December 21, 1926 — October 1, 2018

Mary Ann Williams (nee Cone), 91, of Akron passed away peacefully at home with family at her side on October 1, 2018. She was born December 21, 1926 in Freedom, Ohio. Raised by her parents, Fred and Norma Cone on their 100-acre family farm in Hudson, Ohio, she fondly remembered gathering eggs from the hen house, tending to the Dalmatians, and helping with the maple syrup harvesting.
Mary Ann graduated from Ohio University in 1948. She was Homecoming Queen and her great beauty was matched by her heart for serving others. Mary Ann majored in business, which was an asset she put to good use as an employee at Goodyear Tire, and later as an advisor and sounding board for her husband. She married William M. Williams on March 23, 1949 and their marriage lasted 62 wonderful years until his death on May 7, 2011. Together they raised three children. Mary Ann embraced and excelled in her roles as a devoted wife and a loving mother. She was always involved in her children's activities. She loved helping others and volunteered at Akron General Hospital. She was also very active in the Junior League. Not only did Mary Ann enjoy nurturing people, she had a knack for gardening and was an avid flower and orchid grower. She also enjoyed playing bridge and golf. Mary Ann loved to entertain and was a consummate hostess. She had a generous spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She was active in her church, St. Paul's Episcopal.
After the sale of her husband's family business, Akron Coca-Cola, Mary Ann and her Bill moved to La Gorce Island in Miami Beach, FL. It served as their home base for some extensive travel throughout the world. They lived there for 25 years before returning home to Akron to be closer to family in 2009.
In later years, Mary Ann benefitted from the expert attention of a compassionate team of care partners. The family is eternally grateful to this wonderful group who assisted our Mother. We also are thankful for the support and good work of Summa Hospice.
Mary Ann leaves behind three children, Tom Williams, Atlanta, GA, Pat (Paul) Milton, Munroe Falls, OH, and Marsene (Dennis) Pryor, Lakewood Ranch, FL. Mary Ann had five grandchildren, Ashley (Nick), Abigail, Benjamin, Jessica (Michael) and Andrew. She had three great grandchildren, Georgia Grace, Ralph and William.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 13th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Mark Pruitt officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St. Akron 44313. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
