Marylou Griffiths

Mary Lou Griffiths , age 89 joined the angel's choir in heaven on July 6, 2023. She is preceded in death by parents Russell and Ruth Griffiths, brother Robert Griffiths and sister Maxine Griffiths. She is survived by sister Diane Cox; nieces Eva Holler (Lawrence) and Kim Lorenz (Douglas); beloved great-niece Audrey Holler, and “adopted” daughter Diane Dekovich. Special friends throughout her life included Betty Moore, Teresa Miller, Sherri Maag, The Eastbourne Family, the Prock Family, and the women's Metanola Circle at her church.
“Lou" graduated from Akron Buchtel High School. She went on to obtain a bachelor's degree from the University of Akron in 1955. She taught at Rankin Elementary School until she retired after 35 years of service. While attending the University of Akron, she was a member of the Theta Upsilon Sorority and later the Delta Zeta Sorority. In addition, she was an active member of the Akron Teachers Union.
She was a long-time member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she sang in the church choir for over 45 years, eventually retiring due to health reasons. She also was an active member of her church's women's circle.
Lou enjoyed attending Tuesday Musical concerts (sponsored by her church) and Akron Symphony concerts for many years. She was a voracious reader- never far from a “good read”. She was an accomplished seamstress and even made her niece's wedding gown.
She loved her four paw friends who will surely greet her at heaven's gate. She was also “the bestist” sister.
The family would like to thank the Summa Hospital, Akron General Hospital, Heritage House of Hudson, and the Summa Hospice Team for taking such good care of her. We would also like to thank Saleema, Rose and Myasia, who provided companionship and special care.  Lastly, we have a special place in our hearts for Melissa, her hospice nurse, who was always available to our family and whose first thought was always to comfort Mary Lou.

Services for Mary Lou will be held on Monday July 10th at the Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 1250 W Exchange Street, Akron, Ohio 44313. Calling hours will be at the church from 10am to 11am. The funeral service will begin at 11am with Reverend David Aber and Reverend Francie Fischer officiating. A luncheon at the church will follow. All are welcome.
There will be a private burial service for family at Rose Hill Burial Park, 3653 W. Market Street, Fairlawn OH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church or to Akron Summa Hospice.
