Maxine Graef

December 10, 1921 — May 19, 2014

Maxine H. Graef passed away peacefully on May 19, 2014, with her family by her side.
She was born in Mt. Vernon, South Dakota to Gustav B. and Mary Hanson. After attending Augustana Lutheran College, she worked in Washington D.C. for Nelson Rockefeller in the Office of Inter-American Affairs. She met her husband, the late John B. Graef and they were married 49 years.
Maxine had a full and wonderful life. She set an example for her children and taught them the value of faith and family. She was an active member of Eastern Star, P.E.O., First Congregational Church, and volunteered at Stan Hywet.
She was the devoted wife of Jack (deceased 1994), loving mother of: Mary Jo Shultz (Phil), Dr. John (Leslie), Jim, David (Julie), and Judy Pier (Jim); cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Meghan, John David, Jeff, Kelly, Michelle, Lauren, Michael, Eric, Caroline, Kirstin, and Jimmy; great grandmother of six.
Following Maxine's wishes, a private service will take place. Interment will be at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church of Akron, 292 E. Market St., Akron, Ohio 44308.
