Melissa L. Smith, age 38, after fighting six years with strength, determination, dignity, love, and an unending courage, our precious daughter's battle with illness ended on Sunday, November 2, 2014.
Born on November 15, 1975, Missy's beautiful blue eyes and smile always greeted those who knew and loved her. A fierce competitor, both in sports and life, she maintained that attitude until the end. Even when battling illness, she was a protector of those whom she loved. Those who knew the tag-team comedian sisters, Missy and Becky, will always remember the laughs; those who know friendship's meaning will remember Missy and Trisha; those who know commitment and love will remember Missy, Shellie, and Owen. Thanks to so many who supported and cared for her: Shellie, Becky, Deanna, Abi, Uncle Doug, Aunt Judy, and Uncle Walt, her friends, McMaster-Carr, and so many un-named others.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Jenny; grandparents Russell and Betty Smith and George and Thelma Vucovich; her dear Aunt Lynne; and her boxer, Moose the Caboose Smith.
She is survived by her loyal and loving partner Shellie Hamrick; cherished son Owen Jenson, age 4; parents Sue and Steve Smith; sister Becky (John) Flynn and their children Charlie and Georgie; brother Sean (Ashley) Smith, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Friends will be received at the Billow Funeral Home, 85 N. Miller Rd., on Friday from 4-7pm, immediately followed by a celebration of Missy's life until 9:30pm at the Red Fox, 1767 State Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223. A private memorial service will be held for the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help defray final expenses and to establish an educational fund for her son.
