Melville Grant "Bud" Hynde, 88, passed way on February 27, 2010.
He was born in East Akron to Evelyn and Leonard Grant Hynde and had three siblings; Alexander, Ruth and Jean. He was active in the boy scouts and received the Litchfield medal in 1934. As a youth he took up boxing and was a talented harmonica player. He graduated from Akron East High School in 1939 and worked 1½ years at Goodyear, and attended Akron U. before joining The Marines in 1942 where he served in regulars for 4 years, stationed on Guadalcanal and in reserves for another four. He married Dolores Roberts on April 10, 1946 and they had two children, Terry Grant Kathy and Christine. While Bud served his country, he and his family moved to N. Carolina and Florida before returning permanently to Northeastern Ohio. He worked at The Ohio Bell Telephone Company until his retirement in 1983. He was a keen genealogist and researched and maintained an extensive family tree highlighting his Scottish and Welsh heritage. His overriding passion however remained golf and he met weekly with the 'Wednesday Senior Traveling Golfers' and made a hole in one as recently as 2005. He was a member of Fairlawn Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, children, and three grandchildren, Ian Grant Hynde, Natalie Hynde, Yasmin Kerr and three great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 11 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 4th followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 West Market St., Fairlawn Ohio with Rev. Jean Hansen officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Marines and Firestone V.F.W. 3383. In lieu of flowers the family request donations made to The Faith Lutheran church building fund or the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Gift Processing Administrator, 18251 Quantico Gateway Dr., Triangle, VA 22172.
