Michael Earl Gubbins

January 13, 1949 — June 30, 2020

Michael Earl Gubbins, 71, of Wadsworth Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday June 30th 2020.

Michael was born to Geraldine Gubbins (nee) Jones and Paul Gubbins on January 13th, 1949 in Hutchinson, Kansas. In 1967 he graduated from Kenston High School, Chagrin Falls, where he lettered in baseball, football, basketball, and track. He served four years of active service in the US Marine Corps, attaining a final rank of corporal. Michael obtained two degrees from Kent State University, one in Mathematics and one in Computer Science. He spent his career as a computer programmer and engineer. Michael had a love for learning and teaching, particularly in IT. He enjoyed walking, traveling, gardening, and collecting classic movies. He was gifted with a deeply insightful and analytical mind that led to a lifelong search for knowledge and an intellectual curiosity that never faded. Michael's mind for statistics and analytics attracted him to baseball, a sport he would enjoy playing, watching, attending, and coaching throughout his life. His personality shone with love and intelligence, with a dry and clever sense of humor that always captivated his family and friends. He was a warm and loving father whose love for his children was equally matched by his pride in them.

Michael is survived by his two children, Jennifer (Simon) of New York, NY and Stephen of Wadsworth, OH, his sister Susan, former wife Diane Carter and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service where family and friends may gather and pay their respects will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Michael’s memory to The American Heart Association ( heart.org )

Services in care of The Billow Funeral Homes & Crematory, 85 N. Miller Road, Akron, OH 44333
