Michael F. McNulty , 82, of Akron, OH, passed away on September 18, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Cleveland, OH, on June 30, 1941, to the late Joseph and Brigid (Sweeney) McNulty. Michael was preceded in death by three of his eight siblings. Known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor, Michael easily drew people in with his ability to tell a story and Irish charm. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, reading, gardening, and following his favorite Cleveland sports teams.
Michael attended Cathedral Latin High School, where he excelled at track and cross country. He furthered his education at Fenn College before being drafted to the Army, and was proud of his service. After an honorable discharge, he pursued his passion for writing, working for several publications as an award-winning columnist and editor, including the Wall Street Journal, a city magazine, Sun Newspapers (a chain of 22 weekly papers), and Crain Communications. His numerous writing awards include: Excellence in Journalism for column writing from The Press Club of Cleveland, a chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists; Certificate of Excellence for Best News Content and Presentation from Suburban Newspapers of America.
Michael is survived by his wife of 53 years, Louise, and their children, Michael (Janine), Ryan (Susan), Moira (Kevin Kurpieski), and Caroline (Terry Doane). He was a loving grandfather to Lily, Grace, Ariana, Harper, Violett, Lincoln, Kieran, and Connor.
Visitation will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church at 476 Mull Ave. Akron, Ohio 44320 on September 28, 2023, from 9 to 11 am, with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 am. Burial will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
