Mrs. Otto M. Vrooman (Mildred Lucile (Lucy) Arrington), of Copley, Ohio, passed away on January 16, 2021. She was a fortunate resident of Concordia at Sumner, in Copley. Lucile, daughter of Frederick J. and Edna B. (Lambert) Arrington, was born on February 9, 1923, in Princeton, Mercer County, West Virginia. At age 21, she was baptized in the First Christian Church in Princeton. She was a graduate of Princeton High School and of the Art Instruction Incorporated of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Mrs. Vrooman was employed two years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 18 years with the U.S. Army Map Service, Washington, D.C., and 10 years with the Coastal Engineering Research Center, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.
During her career, she held the positions of Lab Technician, Cartographic Draftsman, Clerk-Typist, Secretary, and Editorial Assistant, retiring in 1981 after 30 years of service with the U.S. Federal Government.
Mrs. Vrooman was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lt. Col. Otto M. Vrooman, her infant sister, Margaret L. Arrington, her brother, Virgil E. (Bessie) Arrington Sr., and a nephew, Thomas W. Arrington. She is survived by a niece, Beverly (Jerry) Kilb, a nephew, Virgil (Carol) Arrington Jr., Thomas’ widow, Teresa Arrington, four grand nephews, six grand nieces and numerous great grand nieces and great grand nephews.
Mrs. Vrooman will be interred with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lucile’s memory to Concordia Lutheran Ministries, www.concordialm.org/.
