Millie Joe Koehl
January 1, 1920 - May 2, 2014
Mildred "Millie" Jo Koehl, departed this world for heaven on May 2, 2014 in Akron, Ohio.
Born on January 1, 1920 to Ivan and Minnie Swineharte of New Salem, Ohio, Millie was valedictorian of the Pleasantville graduating class of 1938 and received a full scholarship to Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
Married to Ralph Koehl, Millie would often reminisce of slow dancing in the kitchen and shared ice cream treats on hot, summer nights.
Devoted mother to her beloved and only son "Ricky," Millie was quick to boast of his accomplishments and big brown eyes - and beamed with pride the day he became Reverend Rick Gordon. And to his wife Lolly, Millie was always a mother, never an in-law.
Millie's ornery spirit lives on through her grandchildren, Josh, Aly and Ande to whom she dedicated her golden years. With Josh she leaves her passion for cooking; with Aly, her truest partner in crime; and with Ande, her zest for family.
And to all who knew her, Millie leaves a sense of humor unlike any other. With Millie, we were surrounded in laughter.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 7 at St. John-St. Paul Lutheran Church, 282 W. Bowery St., Akron, OH 44307; friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. John-St. Paul Lutheran Church.
It was a privilege to know her and an honor to be loved by her.
