Mildred “Jean” Fender, 87, of Akron passed away April 20, 2021. She was the daughter of Steve and Mary Kozy. Jean was a 1952 graduate of Garfield High School and was a member of the cheerleading squad. At graduation she was recognized with the Womanhood Award. In 1953, Jean became the “beautiful bride” of Edward R. Fender. Together, they spent 65 wonderful years and raised three children; Ed, Bill, and Lisa. She loved bowling, baseball, the Cleveland Indians, and playing slot machines. Jean was a lifelong member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she volunteered as a greeter.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Steve and Jim Kozy; and her sisters, Esther Newman, Grace Harkins, Evelyn Horvath, Betty McCauley and Linda Silvio.
Jean is survived by her children, Ed, Bill (Nanette Dimoff) and Lisa Scarr (Jim); grandchildren, Cassandra (Jason), Melissa (Thanasi), Nick (Sara), Stefan (Amy), Shae, Allie, and Brandon; great grandchildren, Sophia and Marco; her brother, Dave Kozy; and her sister, Judy Anderson.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. SATURDAY at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church , 1361 W. Market St. Akron, 44313. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s.
