Mona Nemer

January 8, 1941 — July 18, 2021

Mona Nemer joined her beloved husband, Joseph, in their eternal home, Sunday July 18, 2021. Born January 8, 1941 in Saghbine, Lebanon, Mona was raised much of her life in Zahle, Lebanon. She emigrated here at the age of 18 because her late husband, Joseph, went overseas and chose her to be his bride.

At the time not knowledgeable in domesticity and homemaking skills, she soon would surpass many in every area in creating a beautiful home environment that was spotless and aesthetically inviting. Her culinary skills became unsurpassed and it was always a delight to either dine at her table or be gifted one of her relished dishes for which she was famous.

She was a petite beauty from the time she came to this country, and loved to dress well, and especially enjoyed shoes and purses. One of her favorite activities was going to estate sales and finding the many treasures she lavished her home with. She was also a competitive card player and delighted in gathering with friends or family to compete, and as she aged enjoyed playing them on her ipad. One of the things Mona was most gifted with was her needlework. The beautiful petit point for pictures, or needlepoint chairs and sofas were coveted pieces of art, as were the many beautiful afghans and scarves that she knitted or crocheted for young and old alike. These works were treasures as she was precise and talented.

The name “Mona” in Arabic means “desires or wishes.” One of Mona’s biggest wishes in life (and actually that of her late husband) was trying to ensure their children’s lives would be financially secure, unlike their lives when they first arrived in this country. She was totally dedicated to her children, and she and Joe were hard workers and achieved their goals.

Mona was a loving daughter and sibling, and was at the forefront when she saw a parent or sibling in need, as was her husband who gave a helping hand to many a relative.

This petite beauty will surely be missed, but no longer needs to suffer. Her caregiver the last years of her illness was her loving daughter-in-law, Nouha Nemer, where Mona lived along with her son, Joseph and their children.

She was predeceased by her parents, Naim & Alia (Khoury) Malek, her beloved husband, Joseph, her sister, Georgette Jamous, and her brothers, Louie Malek and Danny Malek.

She leaves to mourn her absence her daughter Joelle (Roger) Karam; son, Joseph (Nouha) Nemer; grandchildren, Jessica (Morgan) Smith, Christina (Brian) Painter, Alexandra Nemer, and Joseph Nemer; great-grandchildren, Ryder Smith and Juliana, Alexander & Leila Painter; brother George Malek, sisters Vilma Abood and Noha (Joe) Daher; sister-in-law Amelia Malek, and many nieces and nephews.
