Muriel Fleck Gentsch

Muriel Fleck Gentsch, 86, was reunited in death with her beloved husband, Fred, on January 21, 2013.

Muriel was born in New York City to Julia Marie and Walter Anton Fleck. She attended the College of Mount Saint Vincent, Hunter College of the City of New York, and the University of Akron. Muriel met her husband, Fred Gentsch, at a Christian association social between Hunter College and the New York University's School of Engineering and they were married on June 5, 1949. Fred, Muriel, and their children lived in various cities and finally settled in Akron, Ohio. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Leader, Cadet Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, member of Bath Volunteers for Service, Bath Women's Club, Portage Country Club, Akron Women's City Club, Fairlawn Community Women's Golf League and Goodpark Ladies Golf League. Muriel was active in her husband's business for 45 years as Treasurer and Controller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; parents, Julia and Walter; and brother, Walter A. Fleck Jr. She is survived by her sons, Christopher (Marjory), Theodore, Geoffrey (Abigail); daughters, Gretchen Gentsch, Heidi (Wayne) Fisher; grandchildren, Aditi, Gabriel (Esther), Tracy, Jonathan, Julia, Stephen, Daniel, Alexander; great-granddaughters, Shenoa, Kya; and many other loving relatives and friends here locally and in Germany.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bath Church, United Church of Christ, 3980 W. Bath Rd., Akron 44333, with Rev. Mark W. Frey and Rev. Maureen Webber officiating. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bath United Church of Christ or Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service Justin T. Rogers Care Center.
