Muriel Snidewind (Mimi) Hutchinson, age 95, died March 31, 2018 at Laurel Lake in Hudson, OH.
A resident of Akron, OH for 61 years, Mimi was married for 55 years to the late Joseph F. Hutchinson, Sr. She is the mother of Laurie Jacobs (Les) of Gates Mills, OH, Joseph, Jr. (Jan) of Richfield, OH, and James (Donna) of Hinsdale, IL. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart.
Mimi was born in Manhattan, the daughter of Robert and Bess Snidewind, then lived and attended primary school in Bronxville, NY, followed by her secondary education at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. While a student at Smith College during the early years of World War II, Mimi met the dashing Navy Lt. Joseph Hutchinson on a blind date in Washington, DC. They married on February 6, 1943, before he was deployed to the South Pacific.
Following Joe's discharge and brief residence in Atlanta, GA, he joined The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Akron where he and Mimi raised their family. Mimi was civically active as a longstanding member of the Governing Board at Akron Children's Hospital, Chairman of the Cotillion, President of the Akron Garden Club, a Charter member of Diggers and Weeders Garden Club, a member of the Junior League of Akron, a member of the Smith College Alumnae Club and a devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. In recent years, she had been a resident at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, OH, which her family thanks dearly for the fine care given to Mimi.
Mimi will be fondly remembered for her love of family, unwavering friendship, deep patriotism, and lifelong generosity.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception at Portage Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mimi's memory to Akron Garden Club, P.O. Box 13343, Fairlawn, OH, 44334, or Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W. Exchange St., Akron, OH, 44313.
