Myrna D Porter

May 6, 1926 — December 24, 2009

Myrna D. Porter, 83, died December 24, 2009.

Born May 6, 1926 in Wilkinsburg, Pa. to Olean and Clinton Dible, she grew up in Verona, Pa. and attended University of Pittsburgh where she received her BS in Nursing.

She married Hugh Porter August 6, 1948 and moved to Akron, Ohio where she worked for the Akron Health Department. Hugh's job with Goodyear prompted transfers to Kansas and Michigan before returning to Akron. In each community Myrna's priorities were good schools for her three daughters, a Presbyterian Church near by and access to Girl Scout troops. She served as a Girl Scout leader for over 17 years helping out with each daughter's troops from Brownies to Senior Scouts. In the Presbyterian Church she has been an ordained deacon and elder and volunteered for 15 years in the church office here at Westminster Presbyterian. Her most dedicated service and witness was to Presbyterian Women where she has held every office and been active for over 50 years. She was known for her love of decorating tables for church luncheons, teas and receptions and always had an assortment of colored tablecloths, napkins and centerpieces on hand. Friends would say, "Have you seen what she keeps in the trunk of her car?" She loved the Lord and her faith and was greatly nurtured by the women of her Friday morning Bible study. Since 2005 she had resided at Rockynol.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh; their daughters, Cheryl Porter of Cary, N.C., Dr. Janet Porter Jim O'Sullivan of Brookline, MA, Donna Anderson Norm of Hartville, Ohio; grandsons, David Amanda Anderson and Brian Anderson; also brother, Leonard Dible Jean of Lafayette, Ind. and sister-in-law, Mary Martsolf David of Gainsville, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 9th at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1150 W. Exchange St., Akron. Private inurnment with family will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park.
