Nancy Cooper Mulhauser died on May 18, 2021. Nancy was born in 1935 in Cleveland. The way she told it her childhood combined an Our Gang episode with parts of To Kill a Mockingbird (one of her favorite books). The youngest of 5 children she roamed up and down E. 110th St. with her siblings and neighbors playing and having fun.
Although she spent much of her life in Cuyahoga Falls and Akron, she was a Clevelander through and through. If you were an Indian, Cavalier or Brown; an orchestra or an art museum; the Cedar Lee Theater or Sokolowski's University Inn, Nancy was your number one fan! She also loved the amenities and institutions of the Akron area. The Summit Metro-Parks and Cuyahoga Valley National Park were her and her family's favorite getaway. She had a Metro-Park Fall Hiking Spree staff decorated with 22 shields, from 1997 through 2019. The Akron Civic Theater was her destination for nostalgia. She really enjoyed sharing the clouds and stars on the ceiling and the Mighty Wurlitzer with anyone who wanted to join her.
Nancy was a temp worker "par excellence" in the Akron area. She used the money she made to travel the world with her husband. She treasured their trips together, the experiences they had and the friends they made on numerous Rick Steves and Elderhostel adventures.
Nancy was not much of a joiner, but she was active with the Friends of the Cuyahoga Falls Library serving as secretary on the library board for quite a few years. She especially loved working the annual book sale with Linda Meier in the specials room. She was also a member of Progress Through Preservation and the Akron University Association of Retirees. Reading was a source of great pleasure for Nancy and she belonged to a book group for decades - a special group of friends and readers.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, John; sons, Robert and Kurt; daughters-in-laws, Sara and Melissa; nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family too numerous to list. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to a charity of your choice. Nancy extends a special thanks to the nurses at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Akron General Health and Wellness Center, and the Hospice at Home staff – so competent and compassionate. We would also like to thank Nancy's many, many friends who have been so very supportive throughout a difficult year and throughout her life. She cherished each and every one of you. She wanted everyone to know "Nancy only had gorgeous friends!" Nancy's final resting place will be the Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls.
