Nickolas P. Andreeff passed away peacefully on June 20, 2009, lovingly surrounded by his family and friends.
Born in Akron, Ohio on October 17, 1931, Nick was the son of the late Pando and Catherine Naum Andreeff and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew, Thomas, and Eugene; his half sister, Stella; his mother and father-in-law, Margaret Duncan and David McCann; and his brother-in-law, David Charlene McCann.
Nick is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn McCann Andreeff; their daughters, Margaret John Matejkovic, Karen John Martin, and Laura Alan Ephlin; and their grandchildren, Nickolas, Allison, Catherine, Thomas, Andrew and Jill. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Cordell and Darlene McCann; their children, Darlene Tim Syx, Sheila McCann and Christine Mark Burkhart and their families.
At the time of his death, Nick was Of Counsel for Brennan, Manna & Diamond LLC where his practice focused primarily on corporate finance. Prior to joining Brennan, Manna & Diamond, he was President of Amer Cunningham Brennan LPA and a member of the firm since 1972. He began his law career as a partner with Robert Shuff focusing on labor law and then served as Corporate Secretary and General Counsel of Alside, Inc. During law school, he served as Executive Director of the Tri-County Planning Commission. From 1953-55, he served in the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.
Nick was a member of The University of Akron School of Law Class of 1960 and was honored with its Outstanding Alumni Award in April 2007. He received his BA from The University of Akron where he earned many scholastic honors and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity which later honored him with its Outstanding Alumnus Award. Nick received his Master's degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University and completed post-graduate work toward his Ph.D. at The Ohio State University.
Nick was actively involved in his community, including the Akron Bar Association for which he served as its President; the Board of Trustees for the Akron Bar, the Akron Legal News, and the Akron Bar Foundation; chair to committees such as Scholarship and Building and Facilities; and numerous other professional, civic, and social organizations. He was also a member of the Ohio State and American Bar Associations. He was a Past President and Vice President of the Akron Regional Development Board now the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce and also a Past Chairman of Akron's Private Industry Council. Additionally, Nick was a charter member of and served for over fourteen years as the Chairman of the Edwin Shaw Hospital Development Foundation where, most notably, he worked to ensure the development of the Challenge Golf Program for disabled individuals, one of the first of its kind in the country. He remained active in his church, serving on The Bath Church Executive Council and Endowment Committee. He was a Past Moderator and member of the Board of Trustees for the Fairlawn-West United Church of Christ. An avid golfer, he was a member of Fairlawn Country Club for over forty years.
While a dedicated attorney and community servant, Nick was also a passionate advocate for higher education, delighting in his family with whom he spent much time and involvement in their education, school searches, and futures. He and Marilyn combined their love of history and travel with their family and friends as they spent time together traveling throughout the world. Nick was a role model. He possessed a strong and moral work ethic, leaving a legacy for his family, friends, and community of how to live a life to be admired. Nick's spirit of adventure, sense of humor, and words of wisdom can never be replaced. His passing has left a void that will never be filled and he will be missed more than words can express.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25 at The Bath Church 3980 W. Bath Road, with Rev. Mark W. Frey officiating. Interment at Moore's Chapel Cemetery immediately following. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, Wednesday, June 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Nickolas and Marilyn Andreeff Scholarship Fund at The University of Akron 150 University Avenue, Akron, OH 44325-2901; The Bath Church 3980 West Bath Road, Akron, OH 44333 or the Summa Foundation 525 E.
